Rewind, Sneakers Meet Basalt Paving Stones

My first meal in Italy consisted of an overpriced, but delicious pizza diavolo in the Campo de Fiori under the shadow of Giordano Bruno, a  sixteenth century philosopher burned at the stake during the Roman Inquisition. The Campo regularly held public executions. The usual he said, she said heliocentrism agrument. The monument is regularly screen printed and painted on the sides of buildings outside of the centro storico district, particularly around the Mattatoio slaughterhouse and Testaccio neighborhood.  As the light waned, the now famously tourist-centric market gave way to street peddlers (more dancing pinguini than I care to ever see in a lifetime) and musicians fond of “The Girl from Ipanema” set to the musical stylings of a very classy sax and accordion set-up. The next morning we headed north for Cinque Terra with a night stop over in La Grazia near Porto de Vierre. We arrived in the small port town late and ate a four course meal provided by the hotel. After a very early morning run along the marina (stair intervals included), we headed for Cinque Terre for our first round of explorations and an impromptu swim in the Ligurian Sea.
